dc.description.abstract | [EN] Depressive and anxiety symptoms during pregnancy are an important clinical problem, not only for the emotional distress they create in that period but also because they can aggravate and prolonge the postpartum. Thus, knowing the risk variables that may explain these clinical symptoms would be of great interest. So far the literature has focused on the study of interpersonal character variables and has paid less attention to the cognitive variables. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine the role of two cognitive processes, rumination and worry, which are closely linked to depression and anxiety, respectively, and social functioning in antepartum depressive and anxious symptoms. The study involved 104 pregnant women in their third trimester of pregnancy. All participants filled out self-reports regarding variables of interest. The results showed that pregnant women who have a higher social functioning tend to brood and worry significantly less than women who show a poorer social functioning. This result was significantly related to lower frequency of depressive and anxious symptoms. The findings of this study could help us guide prevention strategies and specific treatment during pregnancy. |
