A seguinte parada é Grecia,
primeira do XIX.
variables sobre as anteriormente citadas.
Neste traballo resulta moi curioso como as diferentes definicións que aparecen do termo
secredo polo momento. [EN] A brief journey about the historical evolution of the function concept adresses some of the different historical moments through which it goes and how its evolution directly depends on the different needs to which the mathematicians face it. This journey starts 4000 years ago, the moment where we have evidence of the first anticipations of the concept, which come with the Babylonian civilisation. The next step is Greece, where mathematicians such us Euclid and other geometrists who keep in, without knowing it, the concept of function in their known proportions. Our next step is the causility for which the concept originates in the first half of the XVIII century. This causality can be summed up like two principal aspects: the interest in the movement and the invention of the analytic geometry. Once it has been generated, the concept goes through a period of constant change due to the different practical needs that arise during the second half of the XVIII century and the first half of the XIX. Problems such as the vibrating rope or the heat conduction make the concept to be in the firing line, in the expectation of being developed. It is in the XIX century when the concept, after being adquiring different visions along its evolution as are the geometric or the analytical, is definitively established and stabilized. In this way the vision of unequivocal correspondance between variables takes priority over the previously mentioned visions. In this project it is entertaining to see how while all the different definitions that appear from the term are superficially similar, all the contextualization that there are behind them makes that the ideas that hide have nothing to do with each other. It is also of a great interest the role that some concrete functions played in the development. For this reason, a space will be devoted to see what has happened and discussed about some of these functions, as is the case of the Riemann function and some more which will be kept in secret for the moment. |
